Branding Cows - May 2014

Catch up time!
In May we headed over to the Neves farm to help in the yearly branding of the calves. Well, I watch and take pictures while the others work. There's always some excitement to be had while watching the aunts and uncles try and buck some calves... or watching Aunt Taubi attempt to rope them or ride them.
Coulter started med school in the fall and what better time to practice than when someone isn't looking!!
Courtney is a favorite - he is always taking kids for walks, pushing them on the swing, wrestling with them, or saving them from stampeding cows. He is law school in Salt Lake City and keeps dancing the nights away.

Taubi is always the life of the party and everyone flocks to her when she is home on the farm. She also seems to be a magnet for tricks, punches, take-downs, and hugs. She's still an awesome Div I vball coach in Logan UT.

We love our aunts and uncles!

REMEMBERING 2013

Boy - I am just not good at keeping this up to date. We had a great 2013 year - we moved to Powell WY at the beginning and have been able to see and help family as much as we want. The kids get to do many things that I grew up doing which is very beneficial for them though they probably don't appreciate the hard work. But it doesn't get any better than riding behind tractors and shooting guns! We have been blessed to have awesome Aunts/Uncles/Grandparents that are willing to tolerate kids jumping on them, wrestling them, begging them, and playing with them.

This spring we planted grass around the place we are renting, cleaned up the yard, had some awesome-huge bonfires, inherited 5 kittens from the neighboring mama-cat, learned to shoot guns and wrangle calves, and helped the grandparents plant a bazillion rows of corn.
By summer, half of our grass actually grew! along with a wild crop of kosha-weeds - so when Toran mowed the lawn it looked fabulous until you looked closer and saw what was really in all that green stuff.
My brother Whitney and his family moved into Grandpa Melvin's place this last summer and Jenna is amazing at face painting. It is one of her many talents. Whenever we are home the kids love to have her practice on them! Many of my other brothers came home off and on during the summer to help on the farm. They were always taking kids off on their many jobs and I could only cringe and pray when I saw Toran sitting on the edge of the back of the truck with his uncles and hope they all come home in one piece. I don't know how my mother survived all the dare-deviled men in the family!

Toran had a great season in baseball. He played catcher, pitcher, and third base.
He learned the best way to bust calves so they were ready for branding and figured out how to fly fish on his own! He has grown up so much. He isn't my little boy anymore but is a great help with Levi though sometimes he wrestles a little too rough!  He is really into basketball and football but loves to read a good book on the couch.

Mikayla had a special year - she turned 8 and was baptized by her dad. She has learned to take responsibility for her actions and has been working on making good choices even when it is tough. She is our peacemaker in the family.
She loves to dress up and put on make-up but can also be found outside in the mud and in the trees holding kitties or making forts. She loves animals, drawing, and art.

Leah is our jokester. She is always saying the funniest things and makes me smile. She finally started loosing her teeth, hates it when her ponytail is too tight, and really dislikes her bed covers being wrinkly - which poses a huge problem when the little monster can't stay still.
Leah will be going to kindergarten this year and I'll sure miss her and her smiles. She's also a nature athlete and can pass a volleyball super-good. It'll be fun to see how well she does in sports.

Levi is a hoot. I love his smile, his dances, and funny faces. We can understand a little bit of what he is trying to say but is super-good at saying 'Det do!' (let go!). When I leave the house for YW - Trav says he wanders the house calling 'mom! mom!' It's nice to be so loved! He started nursery and isn't liking it very much. How can you go wrong with toys and snacks? We looked forward to the time when he could go and end up spending time in there instead of class anyways. It'll probably be another year before we can enjoy alone-time in our own classes. He adds so much to our family!

My sister Paige finished her junior year in volleyball at Utah State in Logan and we took a trip to go watch her when she had 2 home games. She is awesome! It is so fun to watch her! We performed the national anthem for one of her games. The kids did amazing. The girls sang the melody while Toran harmonized. I'm so proud of them.
While we were there in Logan - we took advantage of Trav's landscaping skills and tried to fix Taubi's system. Her new home is the perfect place for her, but needs a lot of work. We spent the days in the dirt fixing the sprinklers and in her basement demolishing her bathroom. Then spent the nights watching games and eating lots of good food!

This fall the kids got to go sky high in the loader to pick all of the grandparents apples. We raided the DI in Utah and our dress-up box for Halloween costumes. What a spooky zombie, deathly-beautiful vampires and adorable indian we had this year.
We took Mikayla to USU for a mother/daughter vball camp and got so see a couple of my former teammates that I played with during my years of vball there.

We finished off the year with helping Whit & Jenna clean-up after they poured a cement drive-way and sidewalk. They had a lot of help as you can see, but it all got done and no one got hurt! And afterwards - used the crows in the field as target practice. No luck there.
We are so blessed to have siblings/family that get along and can work side by side with some rough-housing, jokes and friendship. We've kept up the tradition of big family projects every Thanksgiving and what better way to celebrate a time of thanks than working with your family.

My final thought: The Lord has blessed our little family so much this last year. I've been able to look back and see his hand in many ways. He guided us and led us to where we are now and whenever I start to waver in my faith and trust - I can look back on that experience and remember that He cares and will answer our prayers. He knows our worries and our problems and wants to help - we just need to trust in Him. I love my family; I love the gospel and the assurance it provides in a time of uncertainty. I am proud to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

CHANGE

Where'd all this come from?

You never know how much junk you have until you move. We've been married almost 10 years and have moved 9 times - how do we still have so much stuff!? Kids toys, clothes to save, shoes, skinny jeans I hope to fit in someday, boxes I hope to unpack sometime, books I want to read, books I should read but haven't, and all the stuff I think we can't live without. Why do we keep so much stuff?

Since Levi has been born - 9.5 months ago - we have moved 3 times. It is time to stop. And stop we have... we have finally made it to where we want to be. We left our new friends in Pavillion WY and parked ourselves in Powell WY where we hope to stay for the rest of our lives. Due to sad and happy circumstances - Trav was able to accept his dream job at the Powell Hospital. Sad - b/c friends of ours left so the job opened up. Happy - b/c  we are home.

When we moved to Pavillion - we had a wood burning stove, so we bought a semi-load of wood. Ya, what were we thinking? We we were trying to plan ahead. We thought we weren't going to move for a couple of years and a semi-load would last us about that amount of time. Well our plans weren't the Lord's plan and we had to cut and load and move that semi-load of wood. Again... what were we thinking? Thankfully our smart and wonderful home teacher and his family used their equipment and talents to help us load it up after we'd cut the logs into 8 ft sections. Now our semi-load of wood resides with the run-down machinery out in my dad's fields... and hopefully someday we will have another wood burning stove!

What's yours is mine...

Our girls: what can I say? Their time after school consists of ponies, kitties, and a lot of make-believe. Mikayla (holding her horse) will tell Leah (who has her pony), "Leah say this: 'Sister, fly over here! Sister, use your magic" and Leah will repeat exactly what Mikayla said while flying her pony. Our cats Stripey and Midnight are loved and very spoiled by the girls. Those cats are dragged, thrown, dropped, smashed, and squeezed BUT keep coming back for more. We love our kitties.

It all started with making a circle out of tape for our new marble game and this is how it ended up. And oh, yes - it hurt coming off.

Levi is a hoot. He finally mastered crawling and is a little shadow following me around the house and clinging to my leg if I ignore him for too long. I now sweep my floors more in one day than I used to in a month. He is a vacuum and will eat whatever he gets his little fingers on.
He can sing 'uh, oh' whenever he drops something and growls at you just for fun. He also loves to grab Leah's hair and Toran's nose - b/c their smart enough to put in arm's reach. He's got a mouthful of teeth and awesome spikey blonde hair that I wouldn't trade for anything.

OUR NEWEST ADDITION - Levi

I know I'm a few months late for this, but we've welcomed a new little one to our family.
Levi was born the middle of July and made a grand entrance.  He decided to come breach with his feet up by his ears so I was whisked away for a C-section. I enjoyed a long stay in the hospital eating oh so yummy cafeteria food, but was ready to go home when time was up. I'm so thankful my mom was just down the road. She took the older kids so I could rest... did dishes, helped clean. I'm so glad she was there. The kids are helpful most of the time. Leah likes to stick her face right in his and repeat over and over, "Hi Bug-a-boo." Mikayla will hold him but her arms get tired after a couple minutes and she's done. Toran will hold him while I make dinner or other chores which really helps out. We love Levi. I'd forgotten how much work and time a newborn takes, but I love having a little one in the house.  I think we'll keep him.

Did you pinch him Toran?

CATCH UP

FINALLY!

Time to catch up. It has been almost a year since my 1st and last post. There have been so many changes this last year. We tried not to stress or worry about things and to put our trust in the Lord... and finally we made it! Travis finished his schooling and is now a certified, for-real, pharmacist. He passed both of his tests after a lot of sweating and stressing. He took a job in Riverton WY as the Pharmacy Manager in Walmart. He started the first part of August and things have been going pretty well so far.

No more teachers... no more books!

On to bigger and better things...

SUMMER FUN -

Over the winter season, we helped my dad fix up Grandpa Melvin Neves home. Dad finished the brick on the outside of the home and we redid the kitchen and replaced some carpet. The place looks great. We moved in when it was done and the home was perfect for our family.

Summer in Otto WY was full of fun and hard work. Trav and Toran helped my dad irrigate, drive tractor, and spray. The kids did a lot of things that I grew up doing... like riding behind tractors, riding horses & 4-wheelers, weeding beans, feeding & branding cows, and taking care of kitties.

* Here are some pictures of our year in Otto *

The kids performed during half-time for the girl's state basketball games in Casper WY this last March.
This time they sang & did actions to Cowboy Joe. They also sang the National Anthem for one game. They really like performing once they get out there and do it, but sometimes its like pulling teeth to get them to practice.

Burning 'The Pit' - I think it burned for a couple weeks.

Riding the ditcher. So safe...

Taubi invested in some cows, so Trav tagged his first cow and we branded and
tagged TBJ's cows with purty pink tags. She's been keeping close tabs on those cows and calves.

It was nice having Trav around this summer. A good break from school and work.

Toran got to play on the minor and major baseball teams. The major team usually needed more players so he got his baby blues opened to some fast pitches. The last two games he finally figured out that it was loads of fun to actually swing at the ball and hit it. Leah following Charee's example of taking some professional pictures.

We helped mom and dad plant a bazillion rows of corn and potatoes,
but we did it the smart way. AND no one lost any toes in the process.
Expecting a baby in July wasn't the best planning, but it did have its perks.
I wasn't 'allowed' to do any of the hot, dirty hard work - Toran got to step up and do it for me.
I have to say though - I hope to never do it again. I like fall and spring babies.

Fishing at Sunshine Reservoir above Meeteetse WY
We only got one fishing trip in this summer - so sad...though I don't miss putting worms on hooks. Thankfully Toran and Kayla are old enough to bait their own. Toran waded out to his armpits in the lake and caught the biggest fish of the day.
